This page is written for my family, my children and theirs.  It is a legacy to my relatives who care about from where we came. It is the best gift that I can give to them.

{{Grandma's climbing the family tree
She's going to the top.
She says she'll go to Adam and Eve
Before she has to stop.
If she gets a little tired
And has to take a break,
She might stop at the Vikings
But there's no telling yet.
It is, of course, her legacy
To all she dearly loves.
They'll sure know where they came from
When she is up above.}}

 My ancestors came from County Tipperary, Ireland to Newfoundland and ultimately to New Jersey.  They also came from the Channel Islands, County Westmeath, and County Down in Ireland to New Jersey.  They came through Batavia, New York.

On the Newfoundland side, I have found a few long distance cousins and made some good friends.  The surnames that I am researching are CORBETT, HAWCO, COSTIGAN, FUREY, KENNEDY, LACOUR, MURPHY, QUINLAN, CRAIG, HEALEY and SULLIVAN.  They all lived and do live in Chapel's Cove, Harbour Main and Holyrood in the eastern part of Newfoundland. I travel to Newfoundland every year for the summer.  Our summer home is in Holyrood.

There used to be an internet site for Harbour Main and the Church at Sts. Peter and Paul where my ancestors were baptized, married and were buried from.  That site is no longer available, so I have made one for your pleasure.  "CLICK" on Sts. Peter and Paul Church to see the church which I visited while I was there.

I wrote a letter to the Westmeath Examiner looking for Sherwoods and WOW!!  My second cousins in Westmeath read my letter and I am now in contact with them.  My cousin, Ned, even sent me a picture of my great Grandma, Brigid Sherwood, the matriarch of the family. The picture is 85 years old.  She was 85 when it was taken, holding her grandson, Mick at age 2 years.  He is now deceased.  Brigid lived to be 91 years old.

I was also looking for James Scofield, my maternal Grandfather, who was born in 1887 in Ireland.  I finally found him on the Ellis Island Passenger Lists (August 2001) and that led me to his sister Mary Scofield, who married Ernest Gartner in NJ and her descendants, my newly found second cousins.

Right before Johnny Sherwood phoned me, he had found my Sherwood family on my website.  How lucky is that?  Meanwhile, my site crashed and my daughter is helping me build this one.  It is far from finished, but I will continue to find the files and bring it up to speed.  Johnny is the Grandson of Jack Sherwood, brother to my Grandmother Bridget Sherwood who married James Scofield, my grandfather.
