Island of jersey

This segment of my ancestors came from Normandy in France and went to the Channel Island of Jersey.

The names that I have so far are (HAWCO) which was HACQUOIL, (LACOUR) DE LA COUR and FUREY was LA HURAY

The HACQUOILS emigrated to Newfoundland in the Harbour Main area in the mid 1700s. They changed the spelling of the name to HAWCO and that is how it is still today.

EDOUARD DE LA COUR shows up in the records of Harbour Main in 1786 and later he shows up as EDWARD LACOUR. He dropped the DE.

I am not certain about the FUREYS as FUREY is an Irish name, but not from the areas of Tipperary, Kilkenny, Waterford and some from Cork in Ireland where the Irish from Harbour Main area came from. Rather, FUREY is a County Westmeath or Galway name. The early records show that there were FUREYS in the Channel Island of Jersey in 1700 and then in 1750 they appear to have migrated to Newfoundland. So it looks as if they first went to the Channel Island of Jersey and 50 years later, left and went to Newfoundland. However they may have changed it from La Hure to Furey in the Channel Islands.

I have done considerable research on the LACOURS with the help of Maryan Egan-Baker, Cathy Edwards and Daryla Cuthbertson. Cathy sent me the chart that Maryan sent to her and Daryla sent me an additional chart with some of the same information and some additional information.

Also, I might add, that there was a Thomas DE LA COUR in Jersey in the 1300s. They came from Normandy in France. Here is a brief description of his family tree.

DESCENDANTS OF THOMAS DE LA COUR

1. Thomas DE LA COUR b: Abt 1310 Bailiff
2. Marie DE LA COUR b: Abt 1335 m. Pierre DE CAILLY b: 1330 Bailiff and d: in 1400, age 70. From Marie DE LA COUR on the tree is DE CAILLY. We do not have a record for Thomas' descendants if there were any.

The larger tree picks up in the 1600s in Jersey and is on this link. The Descendants of MATTHIEU DE LA COUR
